Intro to this year’s meeting

To promote translation of basic research results into clinical application, the dialogue be-tween basic and clinical scientists needs to be intensified. To achieve this, the structure and spirit of the Wolfsberg Meeting Series create and provide the informal atmosphere which is necessary to discuss specific questions without time pressure usually encoun-tered at bigger conferences.

The 15th International Wolfsberg Meeting on Molecular Radiation Biology/Oncology 2017 provides the platform to discuss newest aspects of “DNA Repair and Signaling”, “Influence of Microenvironmental Parameters on Radiation Response of Tumor and Normal Tissue”, and “Biomarkers and Interventional Strategies in Radiation Oncology” at the level of basic mechanisms and clinical perspectives.

The meeting is structured into four half-day sessions, i.e. Session 1 “Young Investigators Platform”, Session 2 „DNA Repair and Signaling“, Session 3 “Influence of Microenviron-ment Parameters on Radiation Response of Tumor and Normal Tissue”, and Session 4 “Biomarkers and Interventional Strategies in Radiation Oncology”. Each of these sessions is opened by invited or keynote lectures, which are presented by international leading sci-entists. Poster and proffered paper presentations will give insights into the spectrum of research in the specific topics.

Since the spirit and the scientific quality of a meeting depends very much on the quality of the poster sessions and the intensive discussions in front of the posters, for each topic the best presented poster will receive the WOLFSBERG POSTER AWARD 2017. Likewise, the organizers are very happy to announce that the ADRIAN C. BEGG AWARD, estab-lished in 2015 and sponsored by Xstrahl Ltd., will again be presented to the most excellent young poster author being a PhD student or early postdoc at this year’s meeting.

Moreover, based on the collaboration with the European Society for Radiotherapy & On-cology / ESTRO, PhD students who are members of this society and participating as prof-fered paper or poster author can apply for the ESTRO-WOLFSBERG TRAVEL AWARD. For each of the 3 topics to be discussed during the 15th International Wolfsberg Meeting 2017 two travel awards will be given.
